John A. James, 72 of Jonesboro died Monday, September 14, 2020. He was born June 11, 1948, in the Cedar Grove Community in Independence County to Kike and Marie James.

He was a native of Cave City but his career took him to several towns in Arkansas. He was retired as a supervisor for United Parcel Service and also worked in management for Fred’s Dollar Store.  He also loved buying real estate and was the owner of several rental properties.  He loved his friends and family, reading westerns and the Bible, talking politics and watching Fox News.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John D. James, one daughter, Sandy Mickle; two brothers, Dale James and Con James; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and James Miller and a great-grandson, Owen James Dobbins.

Survivors include one daughter, Christy Spence (David Feltman) of O’Fallon, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Skye Stratton of Little Rock, Jordyn James and Cole James both of Jonesboro, Holly Skaggs, Christin Johnson and Carson Mickle all of Batesville, Regan Dobbins of Mountain View, Alison Doyle of Jonesboro and  Lexie Spence of O’Fallon, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Arto Horvath, Raelyn Skaggs, Bella Skaggs, Blayton Johnson and Oliver Dobbins; sister-in-law, Becky James of Batesville; longtime best friend, Karen Merryman of Jonesboro and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Barley Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in the James Cemetery in the Cedar Grove Community.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Ballard, Roger Ballard, Gary Loggins, Jeb Spencer, Wayne Nelson, Don Miller and Matt Miles.

Honorary pallbearers are David Feltman, Jack Williams, and Troy Doyle.
