Obituary: William “Dub” B. Carlile Sr.

William B. ”Dub” Carlile Sr., 82, of Batesville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020.

He was born Nov. 1, 1937, in Desha, Arkansas to Marvin King Carlile and Ida Pauline (Bell) Carlile.

Dub was a member of Central Avenue United Methodist Church and belonged to the United Methodist Men and Spares & Pairs Sunday School Class. In his early years, he played basketball at Arkansas College. He was a teacher for 36 years; he taught at Southside, Concord, and spent the majority of his teaching years at Cord-Charlotte; also winning the KAIT8 Golden Ruler Award in the early ’90s. He was very loving, caring, and devoted to his family; he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and grandson. He also enjoyed woodworking, particularly lathe work, making furniture, candle holders, and plant stand for many friends and family.

Survivors include his son, William ”Buddy” Carlile Jr. (Missy); one grandson, Will Carlile (Crystal); two great-grandsons, Sawyer Carlile and Fletcher Carlile; one nephew, Bryan Jeffery; all of Batesville and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Lathea Carlile; and one sister, Wanda Jeffery.

Pallbearers are Keith Harmon, Jay Slayden, Eddie Millsap, Don Hubbell, Buddy Carlile, and Will Carlile. Honorary pallbearers will be the Central Avenue United Methodist Men, Shorty Coles, Sam Dortch, Dr. Chris Beller, Chris Poole, Brisden Slayden, Dr. John Harris, Dr. J.D. Allen, and Dr. J.R. Baker.

Graveside services were Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, at Alderbrook Cemetery in Desha under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville with Rev. Paul Seay officiating.
