A Stone County jail inmate is facing additional charges after fighting with officers after refusing to follow orders.

According to authorities, on Oct. 19, Joshua Dale Brightwell (pictured), 32, was kicking his jail cell door repeatedly. Officers said he was going to be put into lockdown, but Brightwell refused to go. He resisted by pushing and then striking officers with his hands and elbows.

Brightwell was eventually stunned with a taser. He then stopped resisting and was taken to lockdown, according to officials. He was later taken to the hospital to be checked for injuries.

One officer had injuries to the left side of his back and a minor hand injury.

Brightwell has been charged with second-degree battery and impairing the operation of a vital public facility.

A bond on the charges was set at $10,000.

Brightwell was booked into the Stone County Jail on Sept. 24 on drug charges, according to the jail’s website.
