Melbourne Bearkatz defeat the Mountain View Yellowjackets in the White River Classic Friday night, 44-8

The Mountain View Yellowjackets wrapped up the regular season with a 44-8 loss to the Melbourne Bearkatz in the White River Rivalry game.

Melbourne controlled the game throughout scoring on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Ty Miller to Eli Harrell on the opening play from scrimmage to give Melbourne an early 8-0 lead.

The Bearkatz increased their lead 16-0 late in the first quarter on a seven-yard touchdown run from Ryan Worsham.

Mountain View would get their only score when Junior C.J. Rose rumbled for 31 yards to close the gap to 16-8 with 11:51 to go in the second quarter.

Melbourne would add a 31-yard touchdown pass from Wren to Miller and a 13-yard touchdown run from Wren to take a commanding 30-8 halftime lead.

The second half offered more of the same as Melbourne scored twice in the third quarter, a nine-yard touchdown run by Riley Gray, and a five-yard touchdown run from Holden Hutchins.

Mountain View was led offensively by Rose who had 61 yards on 10 carries, Dustin Irwin added 24 yards on seven carries, Hunter Smith had 21 yards on four carries, and Toby Philyaw had one reception for 26 yards.

Melbourne was led on the ground by Worsham who had 104 yards on 12 carries, Wren had five carries for 63 yards, he also was 6-7 passing for 95 yards, Hutchins had five carries for 55 yards, Gray 47 yards on nine carries, while Harrell had three receptions for 76 yards and Miller had two receptions for 47 yards.

Melbourne improved to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in conference play, while Mountain View dropped to 5-5 overall on the season and 1-4 in conference play.

Both teams will advance to the Class 3A State playoffs beginning next week.

At this time each of their opponents are not known.  The Arkansas Activities Association will release the playoff brackets and schedule later this weekend.
