Longtime Batesville surgeon, Dr. Jeff Angel, recently visited with White River Now about the continuing spread of the coronavirus, particularly in the north central and northeast parts of the state.

“In Independence County, we now have about 80 per 100,000 cases,” Dr. Angel said earlier this week. “Which ranks us in the top five counties of Arkansas. It has surged not only in the nation, but also our state and our county. Our positive test rate is 17 percent in Independence County at the current time. And you hear the governor and people at the national level say that we really want to keep that positivity rate for testing down below 6 or 10 percent. So when we get up in the 17 percent rate that means that a large number of people who are getting tested are turning positive.”

Dr. Angel said the situation can be brought under control by our citizens by following the recommendations from the Arkansas Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • Wear a mask
  • Keep your hands clean by regularly washing them
  • And exercise social distancing.
