Batesville man arrested after being found with $48k worth of drugs

A Batesville man has been arrested after being found in possession of drugs worth around $48,000, according to a release from the Independence County Sheriff’s Department.

The Arkansas State Police, Independence County Sheriff’s Department, 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and the Arkansas Department of Corrections K-9 team, teamed on the arrest of Billy Jack Wilson (pictured), 45, on Wednesday, the release said.

Wilson was found to be in possession of 594 grams (1.5 pounds) of methamphetamine with a street value of $30,000, 600 grams of Marijuana with a street value of $18,000, a stolen handgun, and $565 dollars cash, according to the department.

The following charges are being presented to the 16th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to be filed: trafficking a controlled substance (a Class Y felony), simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms (a Class Y Felony), felon in possession of a firearm (a Class C Felony), and possession of a Schedule VI with the intent to deliver greater than 200 grams (a Class C Felony).

Wilson is in custody awaiting formal charges at the Independence County Detention Facility.
