Southside Lady Southerners faced back-to-back days of conference basketball action over the weekend

The Southside Lady Southerners dominated from the opening tip to the final buzzer Friday night against the Blytheville Lady Chickasaws winning 54-25.

The Lady Southerners hit the game’s first basket and led by double figures hitting their first, five, three-point attempts, and led 20-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Brett Gardner had 16 points, and Olivia Allen had 10, before halftime as the Southerners led 34-8 at the break.

Coach Riley slowed the pace in the second half as the Southerners rolled to their eighth win of the season moving to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Brett Gardner led all scorers with 22 points, Olivia Allen had 16, Callie Robbins and Madison Gilmore had six points each and Alexa Blevins had three points.

Brookland Lady Bearcats brought their 6-0 conference record to Southside Saturday night and after a tough fight from the Lady Southerners, playing their second game in as many days managed to pull out a 43-31 win.

Bookland led by one point at the end of the first quarter, 11-10 as both teams struggled from the floor, and the Lady Bearcats led by two at halftime, 19-17.

The Bearcats came out on fire to start the third quarter with AJ Allen hitting two, three-pointers to send Brookland on a 10-0 run and looking like they were about to put the game away.

Brett Gardner hit for five points in a row as the Southerners scored seven in a row to end the third quarter and draw the Southerners back within five, 29-24.

The Bearcats put it away with smothering defense in the fourth quarter allowing the Southerners only one field goal.

The Southerners fall to 3-3 in conference play and were led by Brett Gardners with 11 points, Olivia Allen scored 8 points, Callie Robbins and Kamie Jenkins had six points apiece.

The Southerners play Westside at home Monday night and the Senior boys play at Brookland Monday afternoon.
