A significant tool in the fight against breast cancer will soon be available through White River Health System (WRHS).

According to WRHS President/CEO Gary Paxson, White River Medical Center (WRMC) will be offering 3D mammography beginning in mid-February.

One in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer each year, Paxson told White River Now’s Chad Whiteaker. In females, breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer besides skin cancer.

The 3D mammography technology delivers higher quality, three-dimensional images that can provide a much better visualization than traditional mammography imagery — including possibly detecting smaller cancer cells that can be treated early, said Paxson.
