The Izard County Sheriff’s Department is reporting a man was found dead Sunday morning after officers responded to a domestic altercation at a residence on Pounders Lane near Melbourne.

According to a media release from Sheriff Jack Yancey, deputies met a female identified as Sandi Clapper upon arrival at the residence who said she ran from the house she shared with her husband after he tried to choke her with a rope and threatened to kill her and himself. She further stated that he was still in the house and was armed.

After repeated efforts of establishing communications with the suspect were unsuccessful, entry was made, and the body of Tim Clapper, 52, was found in a bathroom, the release said.

Yancey’s office said it appeared he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Clapper’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiners Office for autopsy.

Foul play is not suspected but the incident remains under investigation, the release said.
