A Tuckerman, Ark. man was killed Saturday night in a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 17 South in Jackson County, according to the Arkansas State Police.

In the preliminary report, State Police Cpl. Daniel Riley said the victim, Chase L. Scudder, 23, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Jadan Williamson of McCrory.

Riley’s report said a 2012 Toyota driven by William D. Golden, 23, of Newport was traveling north on Highway 17, swerved left across the centerline to avoid an unknown object in the traffic lane, and then returned to the northbound lane. A 2008 Pontiac driven by Williamson was going south on Highway 17, swerved left across the centerline in response to the Toyota, and then into the oncoming traffic lane, with the Toyota striking the Pontiac, the report said.

The drivers of both vehicles, Williamson and Golden, were injured and taken to Unity Health in Searcy.

Riley said the roadway was wet due to rainy conditions at the time of the accident in the 9 p.m. hour.
