Obituary: Claudis “Bill” Huskey

Mr. Claudis C. “Bill” Huskey of Newport, Ark., departed this life on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at the age of 89.

He was born April 1, 1932, in Caraway, Ark., the son of Leslie Ray and Verna Lee (Griffin) Huskey.

Mr. Huskey was a United States Army veteran and a mechanical engineer for the foodservice industry.

He was a man of many interests and spent his life having adventures. Bill was a musician who traveled the country, settling for a while in Nashville, Tenn., where he wrote songs, several of which were recorded. He also lived in Memphis, Tenn., where he created music and spent time at Sun Studios.

He was often able to book clubs based on his showmanship and flair. Bill was a go-getter, ambitious, and a hard worker. He was confident in his abilities, and it showed in his willingness to take on new tasks.

Bill was a Harley man and loved anything that moved fast.

This larger-than-life man was fearless, with a love for life, music, and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Juanita Fuller; and his 2nd wife, Julia Huskey.

Bill is survived by three sons, Claudis Carl Huskey, II, of Riverside, Cal., Griffin J. Huskey of Nashville, Tenn., and Matthew Eric Huskey of Reidsville, N.C.; three daughters, Martha Dianne “Peanut” Greer of Batesville, Rita Killett of Batesville, and Nora Carlynn “Kenni” Isbell of Augusta, Ga.; his first wife, Mary Ferrell of Batesville; his third wife, Cindy, Krites of Reidsville, N.C.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services are private.
