Lyon College senior kicker/punter Ignacio Gomez was named to the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society on Wednesday.

An elite group of 910 players from 255 schools qualified for membership in 2021, the Society’s 15th year. The initiative has now honored 13,077 student-athletes since its inception. To be eligible for the Hampshire Honor Society, a player must have maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers, completed their final year of playing eligibility in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021, and been a starter or significant contributor throughout the 2020-21 season.

Gomez was a Spanish major and minored in Business Administration. On the field, he was a three-time all-conference kicker and punter and is the program’s all-time leader in 16 special teams categories, including points, field goals made, and punts.

Gomez passed away on Mar. 30, 2021.
