The board of directors of the Old Independence Regional Museum has announced Amelia Bowman as the president of the board, effective May 2021.

Bowman (pictured) brings a wealth of experience and a passion for positive change to the museum, the museum said in a statement.

Raised in Bentonville, Bowman is a 2007 graduate of Bentonville High School.  Following high school, she attended Washington State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history and later a master’s in history with a public history emphasis from Arkansas State University.

Since 2011, Bowman has worked closely with the Old Independence Regional Museum — first as a volunteer exhibits curator, then as a director and educator, and is now currently president of the board and curator of large exhibits. Bowman is also the board secretary for The Independence County Historical Society.

In 2016, she became the assistant plant manager for her family’s business, Bowman Handles, Inc. in Souths

In a statement, the museum gave a “hearty” thank you to past President Alan Bufford, whose wisdom, knowledge, and capable leadership was a tremendous asset to the museum. Bufford remains OIRM’s co-curator of collections.
