Obituary: Thelma May (Caldwell) Essmeyer

Thelma May Caldwell Essmeyer, 83, of Batesville, departed this life on June 12, 2021, in Batesville.  She was born in Batesville on June 15, 1937, to Ollie Otis and Alma (Gaskill) Caldwell.

She was married to Henry “Hank” Essmeyer and together they celebrated over 53 years of marriage.  She worked at White Rodgers for several years and was of the Baptist faith.

Thelma was a unique lady; classy, compassionate, caring, and quick-witted. She cherished her family and friends and loved spending time with them.  She loved the joy of Christmas and giving, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and was a life-long St. Louis Cardinal fan.

She is survived by her four daughters, Malisa Spooner, of Batesville, Becky Jiles of Batesville, Cynthia Engles,  (Scott), of Newark, Stephanie Anderson  (Keith) of Batesville; grandchildren, Kelli Carnett, Chalee Mourer, (Kurt), Keegan Engles,  Kacee Tosh (Tim), Emily Fike (Tad), Alexie Edwards, (Josh), Spencer Cruthis, Paige Garner (Justin); great-grandchildren, Jayden, Brady, Maycee, Blaize, Asher, Elliotte, Andee, Ryland, Alexis, Sophia, Jett, Lennon, and Brinley; brothers, Jerry Caldwell (Sharon), of Cherokee Village, Bernie Caldwell (Janice) of Garden City, Kansas, Emma Jay Strackeljahn, of St. Louis, Missouri, Mack Caldwell, of Batesville, Bobbie Sutton of Cave City; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Otis, James, Don, and Joe Caldwell, sisters, Lucille Delberto, Georgia Harris, Audrey Cossey, Mary Lee Carnett, and Enomia Seuberth.

A Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Doty Southside Funeral Service, 2180 Batesville Blvd, Southside, with Bro. Logan Holliday officiating.  Burial will follow the service in Lee Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Keegan Engles, Spencer Cruthis, Brady Greenfield, Josh Edwards, Justin Thompson, and Frankie Caldwell.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Engles, Keith Anderson, Tad Fike, Kurt Mourer, Steven Gammill, John Michael Thompson, Jerry Brashers, Clark Nail, and nephews.
