Barbara (Pippenger) Garland of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the age of 84.
She was born June 18, 1937, in Algoa, the daughter of Elmer and Edith (Townsley) Pippenger.
Pippenger married Mr. Troy Garland on Nov. 16, 1953, they enjoyed 57 years of marriage.
Garland was a homemaker and a member of the Cherokee Church of Christ. She was retired from Newport High School Cafeteria. She enjoyed sewing and going on trips with Troy in the “big truck”. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Lee Garland; one son, Rickey Lee Garland; and one sister, Louise Garland.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Phillip Anthony Garland and wife, Janie, of Pleasant Plains and Danny Keith Garland and wife, Cindy, of Newport; one daughter, Sandra Diann Skaggs of Newport; one brother, Dwight Pippenger, and wife, Jo Ann of Grubbs; one sister, Emma Lois Self, and husband, Leland of Pennington; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; host of nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow in Pennington Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Cody Garland, Jalen Ivy, Steve Oliver, Shane Ray, Jeff Garland, and Chaylun Dennis. Honorary pallbearers will be Garland’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
