One-vehicle accident in Hardy claims two lives

Two people were killed Sunday night, June 20, after a one-vehicle accident in Hardy.

State police say Jeffery D. Bennett, 57, of Hardy, was driving his 2005 Chevrolet west on Firetower Road when the vehicle failed to stop at the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and then overturned two times before coming to a rest.

Bennett, and a passenger, Vickie K. Bivins, 56, of Salem, both died in the accident.

Trooper First Class Taylor W. Woods reported the road condition was dry and the weather clear at the time of the accident.
