A Stone County man is facing felony charges after authorities allege a search of his residence yielded the discovery of methamphetamine and an illegal weapon.

According to a release from Stone County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Dammon McGilton, he along with members of the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at the residence of Corey Owen, 31, located in Stone County on June 25. Court records note the warrant was executed based on the results of the investigation of alleged illegal drug activity at the residence

Approximately five grams of crystal methamphetamine, numerous items of meth paraphernalia, and nine firearms — one of which was a prohibited sawed-off shotgun, were discovered during the search, according to the release and court records.

Two minor children at the residence were taken into the care of the Department of Human Services, the release noted. The arrest affidavit said living conditions at the residence were “horrific,” and photos of the residence were taken and documented for the case file.

Owen (pictured below) is being charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, with the purpose to deliver; possession of drug paraphernalia with the purpose to use meth; possession of drug paraphernalia with the purpose to test and analyze meth; simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms; criminal use of a prohibited weapon, (sawed-off shotgun); maintaining a drug premises; and endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree — all felonies.
