Derrick Smtih, director of strength and conditioning for the Southside School District, was recently recognized as the Region 2 Strength Coach of the Year by the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA).

Smith received the honor at the NHSSCA’s National Conference that was held in late June in Minnesota.

Smith said it was “truly an honor” to be recognized by the NHSSCA.

“This is a reflection of the efforts all of our kids, coaches, and administrators have made in helping our program grow,” said Smith, who is also the assistant athletic director at Southside.

The National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA) was created to allow high school coaches to grow as true professionals. Its mission to educate, equip, and empower coaches to make a positive impact in the lives of student-athletes.
