Dennis Ray Smithers Sr. passed away in Cushman, Arkansas on July 11, 2021, at the age of 68.

Born in Lepanto, Arkansas in 1953, Dennis was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the American Numismatic Association.
An avid outdoorsman, Dennis loved hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. Other interests included collecting and dealing in old paper money, raising livestock, and taxidermy.

Dennis is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Smithers; his sister Mary Reynolds; and his grandparents, Lee and Willie VanHorn.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Veta Smithers; a son, Dennis Smithers, Jr. (and his wife Angela); two daughters, Stephanie Gunther (and her husband Jonathon), and Ashley Smithers; four grandchildren, Tyler Mickle, Trey Mickle, Trenton Mickle, and Gracie Gunther; three siblings, David Cox (and his wife Karen), Cynthia Cox (and her husband Jeff), and Leoma Martin (and a very special brother-in-law, Marty); his mother, Violet Cox. He also had several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dennis is known in the horror movie community, gaining a cult following for portraying the psycho backwoodsman Keller McGavin in the motion picture “A Bothered Conscience” in 2006.

Per Dennis’s request, cremation will be provided by A Natural State Funeral Service, 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas, 72076, and no viewing or funeral service held. Dennis’s online guestbook is available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com
