A Batesville man was arrested and jailed for a disturbance he allegedly caused at a Southside business on Saturday night after refusing to leave the establishment.

According to the incident report, deputies from the Independence County Sherriff’s Department were called to the Backwoods Steakhouse and Grill regarding the disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies struggled with the suspect, Oscar D. Valdez-Munoz, 28, before taking him into custody.

Valdez-Munoz (pictured below) was causing a scene at the front door as he refused the management’s demands to leave, using racial slurs and obscenities and telling Chief Deputy Sheriff Aaron Moody, “Do not lay a hand on me or I’ll have your job,” the report stated.

The report also said Moody advised the suspect at least three times that if he did not leave, he would be arrested.

After a struggle, authorities, with the help of some of the establishment’s patrons, were able to subdue Valdez-Munoz and transport him to the Independence County Detention Facility, the report said.

And when a deputy asked for the suspect’s full name and birth date, Valdez-Munoz refused to give it, authorities noted in the report.

Valdez-Munoz is being cited for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, criminal trespass in a structure, and obstructing governmental operations.

He was placed on a cash bond by Judge Chaney Taylor.
