Obituary: Doris Reddick

Doris Olivia Anderson Riddick, age 95, passed away on Aug. 1, 2021, in Mountain View, Arkansas, at her home, surrounded by family.

Doris was born to N.P. Anderson and Lula Pearl Bauguss Anderson on April 30, 1926, in Waynesville, North Carolina.

She grew up in Marion, North Carolina where her father was a retail furniture store owner. She graduated Marion High in 1943 and attended Women’s College of U.N.C. Greensboro where she earned a degree in business. Doris married William Allen Riddick, Jr., in 1947, at The First Baptist Church in Marion N. C., where she was a member for most of her young life, and her father served as a Deacon. Doris and Bill spent 3 years at N.C. State College in Raleigh, North Carolina where he earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1952. They moved to Pennsylvania where Bill joined U.S. Steel Fairless Works. Doris and Bill had three sons who were all born in Pennsylvania; William A. Riddick, III born in 1952, N. Eugene Riddick born in 1956, and David E. Riddick born in 1960. The family moved to Indiana in 1968 where all of the boys finished school. In 1978 Doris and Bill retired to Mountain View, Arkansas. Doris was active her entire life with club work, Hospital Pink Ladies, Garden Clubs, and was always very involved with her church. Her favorite expression was, “Many hands make light work.” Doris and Bill became the first coordinators of the Stone County Food Ministry in 1988. She was a greeter at First Baptist Church until 2020 and loved being a part of the choir.

She is survived by her three sons, William A. Riddick, III, and wife Debra of Mountain View, Arkansas, N. Eugene Riddick and wife Candy of Mountain View, Arkansas, and David E. Riddick and wife Carrie of Mondamin, Iowa; grandchildren, Bill (Laura), Andy, Diane (Jim), Kim (Mark), Nathan (Miranda), Justin (Linda), Geni (Marcus), Jeremiah, Jennifer (Tim), Austin, Westin (Kendrick), Patricia, Adam (Kate); 22 great-grandchildren. She was very excited about the great-great-grandchild expected in November. Doris was blessed to have a large extended family, church family, and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, N.P. Anderson and Lula Pearl Bauguss Anderson; her older brother, Eugene Anderson; and infant son.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
