Obituary: Vitha Stroud Ott

Vitha Stroud Ott, 98, of Mountain View died Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, at the Stone County Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 7, 1923, in the family home on Coon Creek, Stone County, Arkansas to Charlie and Lillie Stroud.

As the eldest girl of seven siblings, her childhood was filled with cooking and caring for each of them. Later in life, her path continued caring for people in the nursing home and cooking at the hospital.

After retirement, she stayed true to her roots and was a caretaker for many. The number of people who had a warm meal from her hands is greater than we all could imagine. She was one of the founders of the Dugan Pentecostal Church and devoted her life to following Jesus. She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, and friend. She dearly loved each and every one.

Vitha was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lillie Stroud; two brothers, Willie Stroud and Raymond Stroud; two sisters, Nettie Stroud and Nellie Watkins, and great-grandson-in-law, Gary Branscum.

Vitha is survived by two daughters, Betty Turner (Herman) and Etta Turner (Wayne) both of Mountain View, Arkansas; one sister, Lorene Allen of Locust Grove, Arkansas; one brother, Charles Stroud (Charlotte) of Steprock, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Lonnie Turner (Helen) of Mountain View, Arkansas, Wanda Bailey (Gerald) of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, and Rickey Turner of Mountain View, Arkansas; five great-grandchildren, Brittney Choat (Michael) of Sherwood, Arkansas, Matthew Turner (Ingrid) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Rachael Turner (Travis) of Dallas, Texas, Kadie Branscum, and Bethaney Turner both of Mountain View, Arkansas; eight great-great-grandchildren, Lexi Branscum, Skylar Branscum, Remi Hanson, Makinley Branscum, Mila Turner, Turner Choat, Leo Turner, and Roux Turner; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation is Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, at Roller Crouch Chapel from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place at Mt. Joy Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with her daughter Etta Turner and family officiating.

Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas is in charge of the arrangements.

The family requires anyone attending the visitation must wear a mask.
