Obituary: Doris Neal

Doris Mavie (King) Neal of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, in Batesville at the age of 83.

She was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Illinois, the daughter of Roy, Sr., and Beatrice Phillips King.

Neal was a graduate of W.F. Branch High School and worked as a housekeeper. She was a homemaker, who loved to cook for her large family. She liked to watch Lifetime movies and musicals on television.

Neal was a servant of the Lord. She was a people person who enjoyed sitting on her porch, visiting and telling people about Jesus. She could often be found reading her Bible, and always prayed for others.

Neal was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Richard Neal, Jr.; one son, Michael Allen Neal; two brothers, Dallas King and Roy Gilbert King; one sister, Margaret Ander; and her parents.

She is survived by six sons, Henry R. Neal, III of Cabot, Charles Neal of Lancaster, Texas, Harry Neal of Heartland, Texas, Mark Neal of Newport, David Neal of Waxahachie, Texas, and Stephen Neal of Newport; eleven daughters, Carolyn Brown of Batesville, Patricia Greene of Elgin, Illinois, Marian Neal of Newport, Angela Neal of Dover, Ohio, Jacqueline Neal of Dallas, Texas, Sharon Green of Lombard, Illinois, Christy Massey of Desoto, Texas, Grace Neal of Carrolton, Texas, Kim Brevard of Waxahachie, Texas, Valrie Neal of Newport, and Amy Neal of Newport; three brothers, Carl Lee King of St. Louis, Samuel King of St. Louis, and Cleo King of Jacksonville; four sisters, Marion Foster of Chicago, Illinois, Jo Ann King of Oak Park, Illinois, Linda Smith of St. Louis, and Sharon Buford of Kirkwood, Missouri; 49 grandchildren;  47 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Gum Grove Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Eddie Brown, Jr., Christopher Neal, DeAndrew Neal, Lavar Neal, Stephen Neal, Marcus McClarity, Kevin Green, Jr., Davon Neal, Jordan Neal, and Charles Neal, Jr. Her sons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
