Mountain View Yellowjackets victorious in season open

The Mountain View Yellowjackets used a strong first half to earn a 32-7 victory over the Fouke Panthers in their 2021 opener.

Mountain View capped off a three-play opening drive with a 25-yard touchdown run from Senior Quarterback Elijah Carlton.

The two-point conversion on a pass from Carlton to Dustin Irwin was good, and Mountain View led 8-0.

Fouke would close the gap to 8-7 with 1:20 remaining in the first quarter on a two-yard touchdown run from Senior Kye Monroe.

Carlton ran the ensuing kickoff back 75 yards for a touchdown.

Another successful two-point conversion on a pass from Joseph Rentz to Garrett Atchison expanded Mountain View’s lead to 16-7.

The Yellowjacket defense forced a punt on Fouke’s next possession giving Mountain View great field position at midfield.

The Yellowjackets offense would go on a six-play drive scoring on a five-yard touchdown run by Junior Landon Goins.

This time Carlton ran for the two-point conversion and Mountain View’s lead increased to 24-7 with 6:07 to go in the first half.

Mountain View’s final score of the game came after Josh Shipman recovered a fumble that was forced by Trampas Stubbs giving Mountain View the ball back with 1:19 to go in the first half.

The Yellowjacket offense used six plays to go 84 yards scoring on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Rentz to Irwin.

Senior CJ Rose ran in the two-point conversion and Mountain View led 32-7 at halftime.

Neither team scored in the second half as Mountain View starts the season 1-0.

The Yellowjacket offense had 283 rushing yards on 37 carries.

Carlton led the way with 94 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown, Irwin had 61 yards on five carries and two receptions for 36 yards and a receiving touchdown and Rose had 56 yards on seven carries.

Defensively the Yellowjackets held Fouke to 218 yards of total offense.

They were led by Goins who had nine tackles and one sack, Stubbs had seven tackles and one forced fumble, and Rentz finished with seven tackles.

Next week the Yellowjackets will be at home against the Hoxie Mustangs.
