The Batesville Area Arts Council (BAAC) will hold a closing reception for the current exhibit, “The Invisible Life,” and the exhibit’s artist, Markeith Woods, at the BAAC Gallery on Main at 226 E. Main St., on Oct. 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A Pine Bluff native, Woods is now in his final year of his Master of Fine Arts at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Aside from being an artist, Woods is also “…an art educator, committed to motivating the world through the arts by inspiring, educating, and teaching hope to embrace purpose,” BAAC said in a release.

“The Invisible Life” is an inspired narrative of life to demonstrate love, respect, compassion, agony, oppositions, confidence, and death, the release said.

“I explore the psychological state of living as a Black male in the United States, always in survival mode meant to create division and separation,” said Woods. “Through observation, I aim to re-create my personal experiences by using symbols, words, images, familiar emotions, and environments. When faced with life’s challenges and confronting pain, it drives out the imperfection we face, such as oppression, health disparities, societal problems, unemployment, and other issues.”

This event is free and open to the public. The exhibition is sponsored by Citizens Bank.
