Instead of utilizing a human cadaver, students at Batesville High School Charter (BHSC) will soon be able to learn anatomy through state-of-the-art technology.

When the school received $1.25 million in grants to expand its educational products, a portion of those funds ($71,000) was used to purchase a 3D anatomy and virtual dissection table from a company called Anatomage, according to a release from BHSC.

Only three schools in Arkansas have the Anatomage table. The company’s website says the table can reconstruct individual structures in accurate 3D, resulting in “…an unprecedented level of real accurate anatomy, dissectible in 3D. The table allows for exploration and learning of human anatomy beyond what any cadaver could offer.”

The accurate details and rich content draw students’ interest and attention leading to more effective educational outcomes, the company says.

BHSC Athletic Trainer Keith Shireman is in the process of training and will soon be utilizing the table for labs, quizzes, as well as for guest speakers to come and demonstrate the product and its correlation to the medical field for sports medicine curriculum and anatomy students, the school says.

The medical field is one of the campus’s career pathways within its recent conversion charter status, and the school plans to use this cutting-edge equipment to provide their students with an advantage as they enter their pre-med, post-secondary careers, according to BHSC.
