A Batesville man wanted in Independence and Jackson counties was captured last Friday in Izard County.

A release from the Izard County Sheriff’s Office said Derrick Hicks, 40, wanted for possession of methamphetamine in Jackson County and a failure to appear warrant out of Independence County for theft, forgery, fleeing, and violating a protective order, was seen coming out of a Melbourne business by Izard County Chief Deputy Sheriff Charley Melton and Sheriff Jack Yancey on Oct. 8.

The release said Hicks got into his vehicle and begin evading authorities with a pursuit that went through parts of Melbourne and onto Highway 69. The pursuit ended when Hicks drove off into a ditch at the Highways 9 and 69 intersection and then tried to evade police on foot, but the release said he was soon apprehended in a nearby car sales lot.

Amanda Hanna Hicks, 32, was identified as a passenger in the vehicle, according to the release. She was also taken into custody on a parole absconder warrant out of Independence County.
