Obituary: Calvin Leon Miser

Calvin Leon Miser of Newark, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, at the age of 72. He was born March 19, 1949, in Newport, the son of John Jefferson and Melba (Murphy) Miser.

Miser was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a retired welder, who later drove a cement truck for Mobley’s, and worked as gravel truck driver for Bradley Contracting at Cord.

Miser enjoyed fishing and traveling, especially to the beach. He loved cheating at cards, and always got the biggest laugh from teaching his grandchildren to also cheat at cards.

Miser’s greatest joy in life was time spent with his daughter and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marcy Leeann Miser; and his parents.

Miser is survived by his wife of 50 years, Glenna Maxine (Thornton) Miser of the home; one daughter, Melissa Miser Morris, and husband, Jeremy of Tremont, Illinois; two grandchildren, Marcy Rose Morris and Charlie Morris; one brother, Jack Miser, and wife, Pam of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters, Sharon Kay Wheeler of Grandbury, Texas, and Billie Sparks of Little Rock; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Balch-Johnston Cemetery, with Mr. Michael Critcher officiating.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Lonnie Mullins, Terry Jones, Mike Jones, Tommy Critcher, Donnie Glasgow, and Ricky Gibbs. His nephews are honorary pallbearers.
