A Batesville man has announced his intention to be a candidate for Independence County Coroner subject to the Republican primary early next year.

Last week, current coroner Wesley Gay said this term would be his last due to the demands of his job as a flight paramedic. At the end of his term, Gay will have served as coroner for 12 years.

One of Gay’s assistant coroners, Mark Reeves, has announced his intention to be a candidate for the coroner’s office.

Reeves, 39, is a Batesville native and has been serving as a deputy coroner, for five years.

Reeves is married. He and his wife Stephanie have three boys and three girls. He is employed with the Southside Public School District in the maintenance department.

Reeves says he loves his community and loves to serve the people of Independence County. He said he is of the Christian faith.
