Ayden Cuzzort and Jacob Longo scored 20 points each to lead to the Southside senior boys to a conference opening 54-48 win at Highland Monday night. It was a close contest all night long with 7 points being the largest lead by either team. Highland leading all the way thru 3 quarters before the Southerners got the first lead early in the 4th quarter and never trailed, sealing the game at the charity stripe.

Highland led 9-7 at the end of 1 as the Southerners struggled from the field. The Southerners had only 5 field goals, but were 10-12 from the free throw line, in the first half and trailed 25-20 at the break.

Ayden Cuzzort caught on fire in the 3rd as he found gaps in the Rebels defense and went 4 of 5 from behind the arc to cut the Highland lead to one at the end of 3, 38-37.

It was Jacob Longo’s turn to find the basket in the 4th quarter as he scored 11 points and hit 5 out of 6 from the line to close out the game for Southside. The Southerners move to 5-1 on the season.
