Obituary: Jimmy Lewis Henderson

Jimmy Lewis Henderson, 78, of Newport departed this life on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.  He was born in Post Oak on November 10, 1943, to Casolee and Imogene (Person) Henderson.

Jimmy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Diaz and was a faithful servant to the Lord.  He was active in the church and served as a deacon and also as a chairman.  He loved singing praises to the Lord.  He was also known to be a great cook and had a passion for cooking.  He loved Mrs. Gilda and was a devoted husband to her for fifty-six years. He served in the United States Army and was in the Vietnam war.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-brother, Harold Ruffin and his great-grandson, Jordan Jamison and his aunt, Myrtle Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Gilda Henderson, of the home; his sons, Jimmy Henderson Jr. (Debra) of Newport, Victor Henderson (Kim) of Newport, Devon Henderson of Newport; his daughters, Kenderilly Watkins (Kendrick) of Newport, Lisa Scott (Loyal) of Jonesboro, Williamina Taylor (Robert) of Newport, Becky Dicus (Lonnie) of Jonesboro, Ruby Phillips of Newport, and Lela Henderson of Newport; sister, Shirley Corley of Newport; sisters-in-law, Nina Phillips of Newport, Coco Marcella Phillips (Terry) of Newport; brothers-in-law, Randy (Tina) Phillips of Newport, and Dondia Phillips of Jonesboro; special nephews, Calvin Green of Newport, Wendell Green (Linda) of Newport, Kemp McCoy of Newport, Reginald Green of Aurora, Illinois; special niece, Tedra Davis of Chicago, Illinois; special cousin, Eli Alcorn of Newport.

Service will be at Dillinger Funeral Home on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 12:00 p.m.  Visitation will be Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 5:00 – 7:00 at the funeral home.
