Jacob Longo hit for 20 points, his first game in double figures since his injury at Valley View, and the Southside senior boys got a much-needed win over the Trumann Wildcats at Trumann in conference play Monday night, 47-35.
Ayden Cuzzort had six of his 13 points in the opening quarter and the Southerners led 11-7 at the end of the first. Both teams struggled with turnovers in the first with neither team able to hang on to the lead for long and the Southerners led by one at the break, 21-20.
The Southerners came out of the halftime break taking better care of the ball, forcing several more turnovers to take their biggest lead of the night heading into the final period, 35-28, and controlled the tempo in the fourth to seal the win.
The Southerners evened their record at 8-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
