The Batesville Lady Pioneers and Pioneers would continue conference basketball action on Tuesday night taking the journey to Paragould to take on the Lady Eagles and Golden Eagles of Greene County Tech. Both sets of teams entered the ballgame searching for their first conference wins as GCT were swept in their opener by Nettleton and the Pioneers would be swept by the Jonesboro Hurricane.

The Lady Pioneers would tip off the doubleheader action with the Lady Eagles in a very physical and quick-paced battle. The Lady Pioneers would do well at matching the tempo of the Lady Eagles, but with shots not falling, they would end the first quarter trailing by five. The offense would come a bit more alive in the second quarter, pulling to within two points about halfway through the frame, but the Eagles were able to match and extend their lead to seven at the halftime break. The teams would go back and forth with baskets in the third before the Lady Eagles would ultimately pull away in the fourth quarter and defeat the Lady Pioneers by a final of 62-45.

Leading the Lady Pioneers in scoring was Senior Taylor Rush with 16 points. She was joined in double figures by fellow Seniors Emily Harrison and Zharia Childress with 13 points and 11 points respectively. Senior Olivia Everetts would add in 4 points and Junior Abby Hurley would add in an additional point.

In the doubleheader finale, the Pioneers would look to renew their rivalry with the Golden Eagles in a fast-paced back and forth matchup. The Golden Eagles would heat up from the three-point line outscoring the Pioneers at the end of the first quarter 21 to 12 despite nine points from Senior Wes Lange in the frame.

The Golden Eagles would continue their three-point barrage as they would score nothing but threes in the second, extending their lead to 36 to 23 at the half. The Pioneers would slow the GCT attack in the third but would only be able to muster one more point than the Golden Eagles and would enter the fourth still trailing by 12. The Golden Eagles would light up the scoreboard in the fourth pulling away from the Pioneers and grabbing their first conference win by a final of 64 to 42.

Leading the Pioneers were Senior John Thomas Morgan with 13 points, Senior Wes Lange would tack on 11, Junior Cory Cothrine would add in seven points, Sophomore Matthew Hendrix would add three, and Junior Jeremiah Strickland and Sophomore Shane Dunlap would add two points apiece.

The Pioneers will return to the hardwood Friday night for their first home game of the conference season as the Paragould Lady Rams and Rams will come to town. Senior Girls action will tipoff around 6 p.m. with the Senior Boys to follow and can be heard on 93 KZLE, online at WhiteRiverNow.com, and on the White River Now mobile app.
