Mobile sports betting in Arkansas could be ready in time for college basketball’s big event of the season: NCAA’s March Madness.

This is after final rules regarding digital sports wagering were approved Tuesday by the Arkansas Legislature’s Joint Budget Committee.

After the rules are filed with the Arkansas secretary of state’s office, sports betting mobile apps from state casinos can technically begin wagering within 10 days of that filing date.

Not all Arkansas casinos are expected to have an app ready at that time. Saracen Casino in Pine Bluff posted on its social media the earliest it could have a mobile app ready would be March 4, or soon after, depending on payment processing procedures and app store compliance.

The popularity of sports betting has boomed over the past few years as more states have approved the wagering. Arkansas voters gave the go-ahead to such wagering in 2018 via an amendment to expand casino operations in the state.
