Obituary: Mary Balentine Yancey

Mary Balentine Yancey, 56, of Newport departed this life on March 2, 2022.  She was born September 13, 1965, in Newport to Nathaniel Balentine Sr. and Francella (White) Balentine.

She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.  She was affectionately known as Coach Mary due to her enthusiasm for Razorback and Greyhound sports.  One of her favorite pastimes was scratching off her lottery tickets. She loved being a grandma and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, and her brother, Nathaniel Balentine Jr.

She is survived by her mother, Francella Balentine; her daughters, Taquilla Scales (Bennie) of Jonesboro and Tenisha White of Newport; brothers, Charles Balentine (Marie) of Fayetteville, Leotis Hardaway (Lori) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nathaniel Hardaway of Jacksonville, Tyrone Dewayne Balentine of Newport; sisters, Joyce Edwards (Paul) of Beebe, Doris Balentine of Fayetteville, De’Lisa Balentine of Jonesboro, Lashaye Blake (Danny) of Jonesboro and Stephanie Taylor (Frederick) of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Ty’ana White, Rico Dawson Jr., Jakeem White, Omar White, Kylie Scales, Kobe Scales, Khloe Scales, Nalani Scales, Mea Morgan, Jordin Morgan, Jaycee Morgan and Micah White; uncles, Troy Lewis Valentine of St. Louis and C. Scruggs of St. Louis; special friends, Tammy Solis of Cleveland, Ohio, Mildred Alcorn of Marion and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
