Alfred Ray Simons, 73, of Newport departed this life on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. He was born June 16, 1948, to Charles and Bessie (Mankey) Simons.
Ray enjoyed watching wrestling and westerns, his favorite being Gunsmoke. He was an iron cutter and enjoyed his work very much. His four-legged babies, Cuddles, Oliver, L.C. and Elvis brought him much joy in life. He had a special adoration for his wife of thirty years, Debra Simons, his nephew Ricky Simons and his special aunt and uncle, Carroll and Sue Huskey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bessie Simons; brothers, Charles Vestal Simons, Billy Joe Simons, J.R. Simons; sisters, Betty Sue Fox, Geneva Simons, Joyce Dunn and Verna Mae Summers.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Simons of Newport; his aunt Sue Huskey and husband Carroll of Tuckerman; brother-in-law, David Emery and wife Tammy of Newport; nephew, Ricky Simons and many other nephews, nieces and numerous friends and family members.
The family would like to thank Mona Cornwell and the doctors and nurses at White County Hospital.
Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2022, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with Ralph Emery officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time.
