Weekend highway accidents claim two lives

Two people were killed in separate one-vehicle accidents on area highways over the weekend.

According to Arkansas State Police, a Batesville man died in a one-vehicle accident south of Desha in Independence County on Friday night.

In the preliminary fatality report, state police say Dell G. Stinson, 39, was driving a 2017 GMC Sierra north on State Highway 25 when the Sierra crossed the center line, went off the roadway, and struck a tree.

The report said the accident occurred just before 9:30 Friday night. 

The weather was noted as clear and the roadway dry at the time of the accident.

In the other fatality, state police report a Texas man was killed Sunday afternoon in a single motorcycle accident south of Oxford.

According to the accident report, Kent Rideout, 66, of Abilene Texas, was traveling south of Oxford on State Highway 9 when his motorcycle left the right side of the roadway, overturned on its left side, and then continued south in the ditch, overturning again, before striking a concrete culvert. 

The report said the weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time of the accident.
