Batesville police officers were called to the Holiday Inn Express on White Drive on June 14 regarding an individual in a room possibly under the influence of some type of stimulant.

According to court information filed in Independence County Circuit Court, the hotel manager told officers that workers had found broken glass on the ground outside the room and could hear grunting, yelling, and incoherent speech coming from the room.

Officers attempted to utilize a card key to enter the locked room, but found the door was blocked by objects stacked against it. According to the court documents, the officers then used a chainsaw to cut the door away and remove the objects that were blocking it.

Inside the room, officers found Joshua Kyle Vickery, 32, of Batesville, in the shower, according to the arrest affidavit. The affidavit said Vickery became unruly, and after a struggle, was placed into custody.

Officers described the room as being “turned upside down,” with furniture moved and tossed around, water standing in some places, trash scattered throughout the room, soiled sheets off the bed, brown-colored water in the bathtub, a broken window, and broken light bulbs.

The court documents said officers suffered some minor injuries while restraining Vickery. Damage to the room was estimated to be over $5,000.

Vickery (pictured below) was taken to the Independence County Jail and placed on a $50,000 bond.
