Obituary: Winfred “Wimp” Dale Reed

Winfred “Wimp” Dale Reed, 68, went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2022. He was born on February 18, 1954, in Batesville, Arkansas to the late Walter Reed and Vergie (Hoover) Reed. Wimp was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord more than anything else in his life. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them every chance he could get. Wimp loved racing and raced for 18 years. He worked at the track for many years afterward and enjoyed helping the guys work on their cars. After racing, he started to participate in car shows with his Victory Red 1965 C-10 pickup truck and won many awards alongside his family. Wimp worked for the Highway Department for 38 years. He also enjoyed going to the lake with his family and watching the Arkansas Razorbacks. Above all else, Wimp was very humble and selfless and spent his life helping others. He never met a stranger, and he always had a smile on his face.

Wimp is survived by his wife of 47 ½ years, Beverly (Floyd) Reed; daughter, Missy Drake (Shawn); grandchildren, Hailey Drake and Ally Drake; grand-dog, Leo Drake; brothers, Walter Reed and Claud Reed; sister, Anna Gipson; the boy that always called him pops, Tommy Reed (Bonnie) and their children, Brianna, Taylor, and Bubba; best friend, Cliff Barnett (Connie); nephews and nieces, Scott Floyd (Jen), Tammy Reynolds (Jessie), and Melanie Ferrantelle (Louis); three aunts; one uncle; two great-nephews; five great-nieces; and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Raydene and Waldene Floyd. grandson, Will Reed Drake; great-grandsons, Kaden Reed Drake and Ryker Lee Drake; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Reed.

There will be a Visitation at Willis Funeral Service Chapel on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, from 5 PM-8 PM. The Funeral Service, officiated by Ron Canard and Richard Sparks, will be at Willis Funeral Service Chapel on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 2 PM.

Interment will be at Kyler Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jamie Kelly, Ed Gardner, Danny Watson, Tommy Thomas, Blake Smith, Billy Bass, Byron Bristow, and Rick Elumbaugh.

Honorary pallbearers are Rick Milligan, Moonie Starr, Mike Davis, Larry Shaw, Dloyd Sparks, Elbert Lindsey, Bill Clem, Stacey Caplinger, Lyndal Watts, David Magouyrk, Highway Department, and the River City Cruisers Car Club.
