Colleen (Fortune) Thaxton of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the age of 92. She was born October 21, 1929, in Jacksonport, the daughter of C.R. and Cressie (Williams) Fortune.
Mrs. Thaxton was a graduate of Newport High School. Following high school, she attended Lindenwood College for Women in St. Charles, Missouri. She received her degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. Mrs. Thaxton was a former Miss Newport, representing the city in the 1947 Miss Arkansas Pageant.
She was past President of the Newport Country Club, a member of PEO Chapter R, and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. Thaxton was a wonderful cook and world traveler, who enjoyed playing tennis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Allen Thaxton, Sr.; one granddaughter, Narcissa Huffman; and her parents.
Mrs. Thaxton is survived by one son, Kenneth Allen Thaxton, Jr. and wife, Billie, of Newport; one daughter, Lisa Ann Huffman and husband, Rick of Gypsum, Colorado; one brother, Darrell Fortune of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, Kenneth Allen Thaxton III and wife, Amy of Newport, Andrew Thaxton of Fayetteville, and John Huffman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Jessie Colleen Thaxton, Anna Grace Thaxton, and Presley Raye Thaxton.
Private graveside services for family and close friends will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at Walnut Grove Cemetery with Rev. Annie Jones officiating.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Kenneth Thaxton, III, Andrew Thaxton, John Huffman, Mark Fortune, Michael Allen, and Rex Wilmans, Jr.
