The Batesville Police Department may be “on the road again,” that is — moving to another location.

The department started back operating out of the former sales office of Stanley Wood Chevrolet, just off North Central Avenue in Batesville. But it wasn’t long until that location proved to be too small. In May 2019, the department then moved to its current location, 51 Industrial Drive — the former home of Dowell Trucking. (Click here for that story from White River Now.)

However, one of the Batesville Police Department’s current neighbors, Bad Boy Mowers, has been rapidly growing and is in need of more space. So, apparently, an offer has been made by Bad Boy to purchase the city property where the BPD is now located.

Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh told White River Now’s Gary Bridgman on Wednesday that pending a final contract agreement and a resolution of support from the Batesville City Council, the property will be sold. The mayor said, at that time, he will make the selling price public information.

As for the future home of the Batesville Police Department, Elumbaugh said the city is looking to purchase the former Entergy/Arkansas Power & Light office at St. Louis and Oak.
