Lyon College to present Tami Tango Trio on Sept. 13

The Tami Tango Trio, an internationally acclaimed Argentine music and dance ensemble, and special musical guests will perform at Lyon College on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sloan Auditorium of Brown Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

The group, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, is on a regional tour of the United States. Members include Eduardo Tami, flautist; Julian Caeiro, pianist; and dancers Facundo Barrionuevo and Aldana Figueroa.

Lyon College musical guests include the Cantabile String Quartet with Barbara Reeve; Fredrick Brown, clarinet; Eric South, saxophone; Hannah Davison, piccolo; Garrett Russell, auxiliary percussion; and Tim Crouch, fiddle.

As part of a two-day residency, the trio will offer three additional events open to students, the campus community, and the public while at Lyon College.

On Monday, Sept. 12, at 12 p.m. in the Maxfield Room, Edwards Commons, there will be an introductory lesson on how to dance the tango for the campus community. A lunch buffet will be provided.

At 4 p.m. on Monday, there will be a Lyon College Convocation presentation in the Bevens Music Room of Brown Chapel, which is open to everyone. The presentation will focus on the tango and its relationship with the historic, social and cultural events in Argentina and the Southern Cone from 1870 until the present.

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11-11:50 a.m., the trio will participate with Dr. Monica Rodriguez’s Hispanic Culture Year 1 class in the Alphin Humanities Building. At noon, the group will visit the Spragins House on the Lyon College campus for lunch.

The performances and residency are sponsored by the Lyon College Music department and Lyon College Convocation.
