Lyon College women’s volleyball results

The Lyon College women’s volleyball team defeated Wiley College in a five-set match in the opening round of the Highlander Invitational Tournament at Becknell Gymnasium on Friday night.

The Scots won the first set 25-22, but lost the next two sets 25-23 and 25-20. In the fourth set, Lyon College rallied for a 25-22 win, forcing a tie-breaking match, which they won 15-6.

Paeton Tucker led Lyon College with 19 kills, Kylee Sabella had 14 kills and Isabella Beasley had 12 kills. Layla Wilson served five aces for the Scots, while Cassidy Garrett had two aces and Erin Haigwood added a single ace.

Samantha Ferguson led Lyon College with four blocks, while Natalia Szymanska had three blocks and Tucker added two.
Wilson led the Scots in assists with 27, Garrett had 23 and Madeline Hopson had two assists. Haigwood led in digs with 28, Sabella had 25 and Tucker finished with 16.

On Saturday, the volleyball Scots opened the second day of the Highlander Invitational tournament with a three-set win over Huston Tillotson, but in the final game of the day, lost a five-set decision to Haskell Indian Nations University.

Against Huston Tillotson, Lyon College won 25-17, 25-11, and 25-15. Later, Haskell defeated the Scots 25-21 in the first and 25-16 in the third set, while Lyon College won the second set 25-11 and the fourth set 26-24. In the final deciding fifth set, Haskell pulled away for a 16-14 win.

Tucker led the Scots again with 15 kills, Sabella had 10 kills, and Beasley nine. Natalia Szymanska and Samantha Ferguson had five kills each for Lyon College. Garrett had 18 assists and Wilson finished with 15 for the Scots.

The Scots volleyball team will be in action again next Friday at the Hendrix College Invitational tournament in Conway.
