Mountain View rolls to victory in home opener

The Mountain View Yellowjackets rolled to a 36-6 victory over the Subiaco Academy Trojans in their home opener Friday night at Yellowjacket Stadium in Mountain View. It was the conference opener for both teams as Mountain View controlled the game from the start.

After the Yellowjacket defense forced a Trojan punt on their opening possession, Mountain View went 63 yards on 8 plays, scoring on a 10 yard touchdown pass from Junior Quarterback Drew Shelton to Landon Goins to take an early 6-0 lead. The Yellowjackets scored two more times in the first half, a 1 yard touchdown run by Shelton and another 14 yard touchdown pass from Shelton to Goins to lead 22-0 at halftime. Mountain View limited the Trojans to 82 yards of offense in the first half.

The second half was more of the same as Mountain View scored with 4:31 to go in third quarter on a 9 yard touchdown run by Shelton to lead 28-0. Subiaco Academy scored their only touchdown late in the third quarter as Brody Koch scored on a 3 yard touchdown run. The Yellowjackets finished the scoring in the fourth quarter as Senior Trampas Stubbs scored on a 48 yard touchdown run as Mountain View wins 36-6.

Mountain View offense tallied 347 yards of total offense on the night, 295 of those on the ground. Shelton led the offense with 115 yards rushing and 52 yards passing and 4 total touchdowns. Stubbs added 113 yards on 9 carries and a touchdown, while Goins had 24 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. Goins also led the defense with 20 tackles including 2 sacks, as Mountain View held Subiaco Academy to 230 yards of offense.

Nick Gehrig led the Trojans with 104 yards passing, and Koch finished with 89 yards on 7 receptions.

Mountain View improves to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while Subiaco Academy drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Next week Mountain View travels to Rose Bud to play the Ramblers in a conference game.
