The secretary at Batesville High School Charter has been named the September recipient of the Citizens Bank “Above & Beyond” Award.

Deb Halcom (pictured above, left, with Citizens Bank’s Ashley Engles) was honored at Monday night’s Batesville School Board meeting.

A genuine soul can go a long way in the workplace and Deb is not slack in making others feel special, the bank said in a release. Whether it is in lending a smile or her time, she strives to help others in any way she can.

Her peers said:

  • “Deb always has a positive attitude even while going through cancer and recovery. She is smiling, positive, and tries to uplift everyone.”
  • “Ms. Deb is the face of the office and a beautiful soul. She comes early to school to make sure everything is ready when others arrive. She stays late because she wants to help. She is a team player.”
  • “Ms. Deb is still undergoing radiation treatments, but never misses school through chemo. She is strong and makes others feel special. She is always willing to help others, takes care of business, and never lets anything get her down. It is wonderful working with a fun, energetic, and happy lady. We are lucky to call her a friend and peer.”

Since 2012, Citizens Bank and the Batesville School District have recognized staff members who go “above and beyond” to realize the district’s mission to empower today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges. Staff in all schools and departments throughout the district nominate award recipients, who receive a Certificate of Excellence, a $25 gift card, and a 16-ounce insulated cup from Citizens Bank. The award is presented at the Batesville School Board meeting each month.
