Arkansas hospital visitor shot dead; acquaintance arrested

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Police say a man visiting a patient at a Little Rock-area hospital was shot dead by a person he knew, and the suspect was arrested about an hour later at a gas station.

Sherwood Police Chief Jeff Hagar said police found 21-year-old Leighton Whitfield dead Wednesday at CHI St. Vincent in Sherwood.

Hagar said 24-year-old Raymond Lovett was arrested in Little Rock and charged with capital murder and aggravated assault.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Authorities say one person has been shot dead at a Little Rock-area hospital and another is in custody for the shooting.

Sherwood Police Chief Jeff Hagar said police found one person shot dead Wednesday at CHI St. Vincent in Sherwood. Hagar did not release the name of the victim or a person of interest he said was taken into custody.

Hospital workers could be seen gathering in the parking lot of an Academy Sports store near the medical center. Law enforcement from multiple agencies responded.
