It was Homecoming Friday night at Stewart Field, and the Southerners’ defense thrived on their home field holding Brookland to three points on the night and leading the Southerners to their 2nd 5A East win, 28-3.

Southside’s defense forced Brookland to punt on their opening drive, and the Southerner offense needed only two plays, one of them a 57-yard touchdown pass from Chase Duncan to Colby Harris, to give the Southerners a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw a 32-yard run by Harris give Southside a 13-3 lead at the break, while only running 15 offensive plays in the first half.

The second half started hot for the Southerners as they took the kickoff and drove 55 yards in 7 plays, capped with a 23-yard pass from Duncan to Blayne Warden and Southside led 22-3. Seth Case capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with an eight-yard touchdown run. The Southerners moved to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in conference play, and will play Nettleton next Friday at Stewart Field in Southside.

Colby Harris — 12 carries for 75 yards, two touchdowns
Chase Duncan  — Six carries for 62 yards, eight of 10 passing for 121 yards, two touchdowns
