Mistakes were the name of the game on Friday night as the Batesville Pioneers gifted the Southside Southerners all 35 of their points in a 35-21 loss at Stewart Field in the inaugural Battle of the Bridge.

The Pioneers took the opening drive of the game and marched the ball down the field for the first score of the game. Gabe Witt raced 15 yards untouched into the endzone, and Aldo Gallardo kicked the extra point to make the lead 7-0 Batesville.

Witt scored again in the second quarter on another 15-yard touchdown run. Holden Hutchins also had a scoring run for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers dropped to 6-3 on the season and 4-2 in 5A East play.

The Pioneers host the Valley View Blazers on Friday night at Pioneer Stadium and will celebrate Senior Night prior to the game.
