Local officials say early voting in this year’s general election is about where it was expected to be in a non-presidential election.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, 2,585 registered voters have cast their ballots in Independence County. The Independence County Clerk’s Office said the number of early ballots cast so far is about average for a non-presidential election.

Stone County election officials report that 1,545 registered voters have cast their ballots in early voting as of Monday. The officials say that number is also about average for a non-presidential election year.
