Sarah Humphrey (pictured above with Citizens Bank City President Jeffrey Freiert), special education teacher at West Elementary, was named Monday to receive the November Citizens Bank “Above & Beyond Award.”

Loving first and teaching second, Humphrey lives out the district’s mission of “Students First.” Blending a calm, patient spirit with her strong desire for success, her students have a true ally in her. Her colleagues notice the attention she gives:

  • “Mrs. Sarah is amazing. She is a true example of loving first and teaching second. She builds strong relationships with her students and sets high expectations for them. She’s innovative in finding ways to make learning fun and dynamic for them. Watching her inspires me not only professionally, but personally. She is the kind of person I want to be and I am thankful to get to work with her every day.”
  • “Sarah is kind, caring, and selfless. She makes sure her students are cared for, not just academically, but personally, emotionally, and mentally. She is an amazing teacher and it’s a pleasure working side-by-side with her.”
  • “Mrs. Sarah is a very special person. Her calm demeanor, patience, and kind personality provide for a happy, positive environment. She is an integral part of her students’ lives. She also works in our after-school program and is always willing to do whatever is asked of her. We are so thankful that she works at West. She is truly one in a million.”

Since 2012, Citizens Bank and the Batesville School District have recognized staff members who go “above and beyond” to realize the district’s mission to empower today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges. Staff in all schools and departments throughout the district nominate award recipients, who receive a Certificate of Excellence, a $25 gift card, and a 16-ounce insulated cup from Citizens Bank. The award is presented at the Batesville School Board meeting each month.
